Webby Awards "people's voice" awards time again

The Webby Awards have come around again, and voting has officially started for the Webby "People's Voice" Awards.

As you probably know, last year LiveJournal won two People's Voice awards in the Services and Personal Site category. While it would be fine to win either of those awards again, the award that probably best describes LiveJournal, best Community, eluded us last year.

Personally, I'd like to see that change. I know we're not the largest online community out there, but I tend to think we're pretty much the best. I can't think of any other website out there that means so much to me or to my friends, and it is a real tribute to the success of LiveJournal's community features that I have met so many wonderful people through this site.

If you feel the same way, you can go to their website and cast a write-in vote for LiveJournal as best online community, or for the best Service or Personal Site category if you would prefer. This year, there's considerably less time for voting, and I don't expect the voting to be as active or as competitive as last year, which is a good thing. Don't expect the huge push we had last year... the success of LiveJournal will depend largely on the users of the site getting the vote out themselves. Still, it would be nice to be the top write-in contender... and if we manage to pull off another win, that would be cool too. While you are there, I would recommend voting in the other categories as well, and visiting some of the nominated sites -- there are some good ones out there -- and despite all the rumors, the Web isn't dead yet!

Best of luck to this year's new crop of nominees and my thanks to all of the people out there with a passion for the Web who create great sites that benefit everyone. See ya at the polls!
