"Open source" vs. "free software"

After reading the C|Net review, I'm curious:

Is there any particular reason we are using the term "open source" instead of Gnu's "free software"?

Gnu's argument in favor of "free software."

I'm fairly curious because Gnu goes so far as saying that open source and free software are two completely different movements, but everyone else seems to lump the terms together.
