I can't find anything on that topic in the FAQ, although there is a section for webmasters of
other sites on how to disable remote loading of pictures.
I would like the matter clarified, because it's come to my attention that the LiveJournal abuse team
requires users to remove links to pictures in case a permission wasn't obtained. To quote an email from the Abuse Team: "Linking is considered stealing unless it's your own site or you have the sites permission to do so". This policy can be characterised as downright inane in my opinion; needless to say it contraditcs all technical considerations and legal precedents. There is no technical or legal case against putting an <img> tag in an HTML file.
In case I missed any official pronouncement on the issue, please point it out to me.
