I had a thought on a way for LJ to make some more money, so I thought I would mail you about it.Heh... most interesting. What are people's thoughts on this?
I am sure you know about Amazon.com's affiliate program, and a bunch of other online stores. It should be relatively easy to transform Amazon.com URLs into URLs which would pay LJ a commision.
How to implement really becomes the question. Well how to implement it without pissing people off ;)
The different ways I thought it could possibly be implemented:
1) When people sign up for free accounts, it is disclosed that this will happen.
2) It happens to all Amazon URLs which don't already have an affiliate ID attached.
3) It becomes a selectable option within Edit Personal Info.
4) You leave it completely up to the user. I.e. sign up for the affiliate account, and post the information on how to use it in News.
Should LiveJournal consider doing this?
If 'Yes' above, what's the best way(s) to do it?
